Earth's Last Citadel or; Poor Punctuation (and in a title... WTF?!)

Dateline: Vancouver, Summer 2011
A photographer nears the end of his college photography education and reals at the choices that lay before him. He asks a question,
"What is this?"

Earth's Last Citadel Recreated - Peter Onyschuk, 2011

All joking aside, I created this image for a class I just finished at Langara College called Commercial Production. Probably one of the best courses I've taken yet at that wonderful institution (no japes). Small class, LOTS OF WORK, knowledgeable instructor; this class is serious.
This image is a photographic reinterpretation of a sci-fi paperback illustration titled "Earth's Last Citadel" written by wife and husband (equality) duo C.L. Moore and Henry Kuttner (respectively).
Here's the original:...

Hipstamatic Template Ideas

I couldn't find many concise, pertinent, or even not-bullshit results in the google box for hipstamatic templates or settings for photoshop so I made one using a gradient of orange-yellow-orange on a second layer with the blending mode set to pinlight. Viola! Change the opacity to taste... bad taste, and you're done. Oh wait... I wasn't finished, I changed it into a psychedelic mirrored double exposure. Woah, man. And then it's... MRBRNWSH
Anyways I'd love to hear more about how other people have done this, perhaps you're reading this and know how to search engine better than I. Please help!

Hair Photography

I did another photo shoot with Katie J. on April 24 for some sort of national industry hair competition. Katie produced the shot and did hair, another Katie did makeup, and I did the photography and post-production. I used an umbrella with an sb600 for most of the shots but this was lit by seven 5x8 windows on a cloudy/rainy day. The type of day that's very typical of Vancouver in the spring, summer, fall, and winter.
There's several things I would go back and change about this shot, but I'm not going to fret about it. I'll just have to learn from mistakes and DO BETTER NEXT TIME. And every time. Peter Onyschuk "Doing Better Every Time"

Queen E. Paster Pastel Colour B - 2011

                   VS.

One image I made when I was sixteen and the other ten years later at the age of 26. No, I don't know what "Paster" is. I like the newer image better however I wish I still had the Photoshop recipe for the first image.
